Telephone Advice LineThe Lactation Program handles a large number of telephone inquiries from both parents and health professionals. There is no charge for this service, although we do request that those calling from outside the Denver Metro area pay for any long distance telephone charges. The advice line is staffed by the same Registered Nurse, International Board Certified Lactation Consultants who provide consultation services. Calls are answered Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm Mountain Time. Messages are generally returned within 24 hours, although this may not always be possible due to limited staffing. If you are having difficulties that require immediate attention, you should call your primary care physician. Some breastfeeding questions—such as whether a medication is safe for nursing mothers or how long expressed milk can be stored—can be answered during a brief telephone conversation. In most cases, however, breastfeeding difficulties cannot be resolved with simple telephone advice. After assessing your problem by telephone, the Lactation Consultant may conclude that the best way to address your concern is to schedule an individual consultation. |
